Framers

Pictures, paintings and mirrors are an important part of interior décor. They give your home a touch of individuality, help create the illusion of larger space or/and create that homely feeling that makes your home your very own sanctuary. But if you want to achieve the desired effect by displaying pictures, paintings or/and mirrors, you need the right frames.

Frame

Choosing the Right Frames for Your Pictures, Paintings and Mirrors

Choosing the right frame is not as easy as it may seem at a first glance, especially for paintings and pictures. It must blend perfectly with the picture or painting you want to display, however, it also must blend perfectly with its surroundings including other frames. At the same time, the frame must not overshadow the picture or painting. It is intended to enclose a picture or painting, complement its beauty and draw attention to the picture rather than away from it. To make the right choice, you are therefore strongly recommended to take into consideration factors such as the size of the frame, location of pictures, paintings and mirrors, the colours, style, etc.

A hint: You can make the selection process a lot easier by determining all the pictures or/and paintings you want to display before you start looking for the right frames.

Types of Frames

Frames can generally be divided into two types – ready- and custom-made. The first type is preferred by most people because ready-made frames are generally less expensive than custom-made ones. However, they are available only in the standard sizes and are not as decorative. They are not only cheap but are often also cheaply made.

Frames

In addition to the ability to choose between ready- and custom-made frames, you can also choose between stand alone and mounted frames, and a variety of frames according to type of display or type of material that is displayed such as:

Materials

Frame

A variety of materials can be used for making frames including wood, metal and plastic. The material from which the frame is made has a major influence on its aesthetic appeal as well as durability. Paintings and mirrors look best if displayed in wood or metal frames, while pictures can also look good in a plastic frame. All materials are a good choice for modern homes because all can be used for modern frames that complement the overall modern look. But if your home is traditionally furnished and decorated, it is best to stick to wood or metal.

Glazing

In addition to framing, you should perhaps also consider glazing your pictures and paintings (with the exception of oil paintings which are glazed with acrylic varnish rather than glass). That way you will protect them from dust, dirt and other sources of damage including the harmful UV light.
